How does the regulation of homeopathy affect you
THE STUDENT: All health professions are regulated provincially in Canada. This means that each province has their own rules and requirements for health professions. Currently, Ontario is the only province in Canada that regulates Homeopathy. The Ontario College of Homeopathic Medicine was proud to be the school that supported regulation in Ontario and worked with The Ontario Homeopathic Association to this end. The Regulatory College is responsible for the creation of all standards of practice, competencies and entries to practice. Any individual not meeting these requirements will not be eligible to practice homeopathy in Ontario. Currently, OCHM’s curriculum meets or exceeds the standards that were recommended to the Ministry of Health, by the Ontario Homeopathic Association in their submission for regulation. OCHM is committed to working closely with the Regulatory Council of Homeopathy to establish the highest standards of practice in homeopathy.
FOR THE PRACTITIONER: Homeopathy is now a Regulated Health Profession in Ontario. This means that all homeopaths will have to follow the rules of entry to practice standards of practice and competencies as will be outlined by the Regulatory College of Homeopaths. All practitioners will have to be members of the College of Homeopaths if they wish to practice Homeopathy in Ontario. In anticipation of the future rules and regulations, OCHM is committed to provide upgrading, bridging and continuing education courses in homeopathy and health sciences to support homeopaths in fulfilling their membership requirement
FOR THE PATIENT: The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care in Ontario has recognized the need for homeopathy to be a Regulated Health Profession. This means that patients can now choose to visit a homeopath and be assured quality care. All homeopaths will be required to meet the standards of practice set by the Regulatory College and will be accountable to their patients to provide quality care. OCHM is committed to providing quality care for patients in the teaching clinic and train students according to the highest standards.
